Principal's Message

Greetings Harold Washington Families,

Welcome to the 2017-18 academic year!
As we embark on our second year of “Pacing for Excellence,” I want to take a moment to thank our outstanding parents and community for continuous and consistent support. Thank you for your attendance at our events, for your support and kind words about our staff and programs, and mostly, thank you for sharing your remarkable students with us at Harold Washington Elementary School.

This year we will continue to strive to create even more authentic and innovative learning opportunities for students. Our staff embraces working together to ensure content alignment and sharing best practices to enhance their pedagogy. We know that by working together we create opportunities for students to achieve. The process of educating and caring for our children is a team effort. I encourage you to contact the school at any time you have a concern, need clarification, or simply want to check in with your child’s educators.

This academic year Harold Washington Students and Families will engage in goal setting. The process of setting goals allows students to choose where they want to go in school and what they want to achieve. By knowing what they want to achieve, they know what they have to concentrate on and improve. Goal setting gives students long-term vision and short-term motivation. Having sharp, clearly defined goals, which students can measure, will allow them to take pride in accomplishing those goals. They can see clear forward progress in what might have seemed a long drawn out process.

The 2018 School Calendar has new and exciting learning opportunities for students and families. If you have not done so yet, please become familiar with our calendar. The calendar is an excellent tool to help you plan your academic year.

I again thank you for your support for our school and for your involvement in your student’s education; that is one of our greatest strengths and something that sets us apart from other schools. We are very proud of our reality that here, there is an opportunity for everyone to be involved; this includes students, parents, and members of the community.

We are excited for the 2017-18 school year. Together, we can ensure that this will be a great year!
