Welcome to the 2020 - 2021 academic year!
Our commitment at Harold Washington Elementary School is to provide a safe and intellectually challenging environment that will empower students to become innovative thinkers, creative problem solvers and inspired learners prepared to thrive in the twenty-first century. HWES has been busy preparing for another amazing year. This summer a new recreation space has been under construction. Over the summer break the school has been cleaned and totally refreshed. However, due COVID-19 we are starting the school year learning from home.
CPS Will Begin the School Year on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 with a Full Remote Learning Model With All Students Receiving Real-Time Instruction Every School Day. The district will implement remote learning through the first quarter and work with CDPH to determine if it is safe to open with a hybrid learning model in the second quarter.
Enhanced Standards for Remote Learning and Digital Learning for All Students
In order to provide a more stable and high-quality remote learning experience for students, the district will be enacting new requirements for learning, including ensuring every K-8 teacher and student will be engaged for the entirety of the school day, with students receiving real-time instruction every day. Additionally, all students will have access to and participate in digital learning.
